Stefan Bugryn is an AACTA award nominated documentary filmmaker based in Melbourne, Australia.
In 2018, he won Best Short Film and Best Director: Short Film Category at the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival for the first instalment of his War Mothers documentary project. The film was officially backed and supported by Time Out Australia.
The second instalment, ‘War Mothers: Unbreakable’, was one of 63 shorts films selected out of over 5,100 to have it’s world premiere at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival. The same project played at Sydney Film Festival, Columbia University in New York, and was nominated for Best Documentary Short at the 2019 AACTA Awards, and Best Direction in a Documentary Short in the 2020 Australian Directors Guild Awards.
In 2020, Stefan was accepted into Tribeca Film Institute's Docs by the Sea 2020 Program, where he is currently producing a short documentary based in The Philippines.
He is also developing a documentary series, backed by Screen Australia, looking at the relationship of Australians and their dogs during the bushfires, drought and floods of 2020.
